After online food delivery platform Zomato, now ordering food from Swiggy has also become expensive. The company has increased the platform fees on every order by 17% from today, March 24.

Instead of Rs 14, users will now have to pay Rs 17.58 (including GST) i.e. Rs 3.58 more platform fee on every order. This increase has been made due to increasing cost of delivery operations.

Swiggy increased platform fees for the second time in 7 months

April 2023 ₹2 (starting)
January 2024 ₹5
July 2024 ₹6
October 2024 ₹10
August 2025 ₹12
October 2025 ₹14
March 2026 ₹17.58

Collection of platform fees started from April 2023

The company has increased the platform fees for the second time in 7 months. Earlier in August-2025, there was an increase of 17% i.e. Rs 2. Then the platform fee had increased from Rs 12 to Rs 14.

Swiggy first introduced platform fees in April 2023, so that the company could improve its unit economics. Since then the company has gradually increased this fee several times. Initially this fee was only Rs 2.

Swiggy’s platform fees equal to Zomato’s

On March 20 itself, Zomato had increased its platform fee by 19% i.e. ₹ 2.40 to ₹ 14.90 (without GST). After adding tax (GST), the effective platform fee of both the companies is now equal to approximately ₹17.58. This means that now you will have to pay almost equal extra charge for ordering food from both the platforms.

What are platform fees and why are they collected?

Platform fee is a fixed charge that is levied on every order in addition to food bill, restaurant charges and delivery fees. Companies take it to improve their operating costs and cover their expenses on services like technology maintenance and customer support. Whether your food bill is ₹200 or ₹2000, this fee remains the same on every order.

The pockets of crores of users will be affected.

Crores of people across the country order food through these apps every day. This seemingly minor increase of ₹2 to ₹3 generates additional revenue worth crores of rupees for companies.

However, due to repeatedly increasing fees, there is resentment among customers who regularly order food from outside. Both Zomato and Swiggy companies are now becoming more dependent on such charges to reduce their losses and move towards profits.
