Abdulla Aboobacker Profile Athletics Paris Olympics 2024 Men’s Triple Jump
Triple-jumper Abdulla Aboobacker will make his Summer Olympics debut in Paris this year. The Kerala-born athlete wanted to be a sprinter when he first decided to build his career in sports at the age of 14.
He competed in 100m and 200m races at the school level before shifting his focus to triple jump.
Aboobacker announced his arrival in the national circuit by winning the Asian School Championship in 2013. Two years later, he became the National Junior Champion while also winning the Junior Federation Cup.
He struggled with frequent injuries till 2019.
During this period, he was recruited by the Indian Air Force where he met with former Indian long jumper Harikrishnan.
After three years of rigorous training, Aboobacker was called up to the national camp. He won the silver medal with a leap of 17.02m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games where Eldhose Paul claimed gold by covering 17.03 metres.
At the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships, his 16.92m jump helped him secure a gold medal. He then won bronze at the Montreuil International Athletics Meeting.
Aboobacker competed at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. He lost the bronze medal to compatriot Praveen Chithravel by a narrow margin.

Paris Olympics Qualification
Aboobacker had an opportunity to earn his Paris Olympics quota at the Indian Open Jumps Competition in March. He secured the gold medal at the national event but couldn’t meet the Olympic qualification standard of 17.22m.
He finally booked his ticket to Paris through world rankings.
Recent Performances
Aboobacker featured at the Xiamen Diamond League earlier in April and finished eighth in the men’s triple jump event with a 16.33m leap. He bounced back well at the Indian Open Jumps Competition next month.
Aboobacker edged ahead of his friend Eldhose Paul with a 16.76m leap to bag the gold medal.
