Karnataka minister’s aide arrested in Maharashtra for possession, sale of drugs

A close aide of Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge Lingaraj Kanni, who is also the Kalaburagi South Block Congress president, was arrested by Maharashtra police in a drug case.

Kanni, who is also closely associated with Gulbarga Dakshin Assembly constituency MLA Allamaprabhu Patil, was arrested in Thane city, while allegedly selling narcotic substances.

The Kalyan police also seized 120 bottles of banned codeine syrup from his possession.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 at the Kalyan Police Station.

In December last year, another aide of minister Kharge was implicated in the suicide of a 26-year-old contractor in Bidar. The contractor, Sachin Panchal, in his seven-page death note, alleged that Raju Kapanur, a known rowdy-sheeter and close associate of Priyank Kharge, had cheated him, extorted him for money and issued death threats over a tender-related dispute.

Kapanur and with five others were also named in a murder conspiracy case. They were accused of conspiring to kill BJP MLA Basavaraj Mattimadu and other leaders.

In February, another known criminal who was said to be a close associate of Congress MLA NA Harris, was murdered near a popular mall in central Bengaluru. Haider Ali was reportedly attacked with machetes and sickles by assailants on bikes. The nighttime incident also left Ali’s friend injured.
