The Sensex falls 850 points on the fourth trading day of the week today i.e. on Thursday, 22 May, it is trading at the level of 80,750. The Nifty is also at the level of 24,550 points below 250 points.
27 out of 30 shares of Sensex declines. A total of 17 shares including Power Grid, Tech Mahindra and HCL Tech have fallen by about 2.5%. Adani Ports IndusInd Bank and Tata Steel have a slight rise.
Out of 50 shares of Nifty, 45 declines and 5 declines. NSE’s auto index has a decline of 1.12%, 1.52% in IT, 1.46% in FMCG and 1% in banking shares.
Global market declines
- In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei is trading at 36,967 below 332 points (0.89%) and Korea’s Kospi is trading at 2,590 below (1.34%) below.
- Hong Kong’s Hangseng index falls 78 points (0.33%) to 23,750. There is a slight decline in China’s Shanghai composite, trading at 3,386.
- On 21 May, the US Dow Jones 816 points (1.91%) below 41,860, Nasdaq Composite closed at 18,873 below 270 points (1.41%) and S&P 500 95 points (1.61%) below 23 points at 5,845.
Foreign investors on 21 May 2,202 Buy crores of shares
- On May 21, Foreign Investors (FIIs) purchased a net of Rs 2,201.79 crore in the cash segment and Rs 683.77 crore by domestic investors (DIIs).
- In May, so far, foreign investors have purchased Rs 15,442.38 crore in the cash segment and Rs 30,482.78 crore by domestic investors.
- Net purchases of foreign investors in April stood at Rs 2,735.02 crore. Domestic investors also purchased a net of ₹ 28,228.45 crore in a month.

‘The Leela’ Hotels IPO will open from May 26
The IPO of Shloss Bangalore Limited, a parent company of the Indian luxury hotel chain ‘The Leela’, will open for subscription from May 26. Retail investors can bid for this by 28 May 2025. On 23 May 2025, anchor investors will be able to bid. Through this issue, the company wants to raise Rs 3,500.
In this IPO, the company will issue 5.75 crore new shares worth Rs 2,500 crore. 2.30 crore shares worth Rs 1,000 crore will be under the offer for sale.
Sensex rises 410 points on Wednesday, Nifty gained 130 points
The Sensex climbed 410 points on the third trading day of the week i.e. Wednesday, May 21 to close at 81,597. The Nifty also rose by 130 points. It closed at 24,813 levels.
24 out of 30 shares of Sensex closed up. A total of 8 shares including Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Sunforma rose by 2%. Whereas, 6 shares including IndusInd Bank Bank declined by 1%.
Out of 50 shares of Nifty, 34 are rose. NSE’s realty index rose by 1.72%, 1.25% in pharma, 0.72% in auto and 0.70% in IT. Consumer durables fell by 0.49%.
