Manmohan Singh was cremated with state honors at Nigambodh Ghat.
Amid the controversy over the memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress has targeted the government over the arrangements for his funeral.
Congress leader Pawan Kheda said in an X post that he was surprised to see the chaos and disrespect from the government in the state funeral of Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Kheda lodged objections related to the last rites in 9 points. He said that only 3 chairs were kept for Dr. Singh’s family. Had to ask for chairs for the rest of the family.
Apart from this, he also accused PM Modi that when Dr. Singh’s wife was handed over the national flag and given a gun salute, PM Modi and the ministers did not stand up.
Kheda said that this chaos and disrespect makes it clear how much the government’s priorities and democratic values are lacking towards a great leader. Dr. Singh deserved respect and dignity.
Earlier on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said that the Central Government has completely insulted Dr. Manmohan Singh, the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, by performing his last rites at Nigambodh Ghat.

Even during his last journey, Dr. Manmohan Singh was made to wear his favorite blue turban. To remember Cambridge University, he made one of its colors the signature color of his turban.
9 objections lodged by Pawan Kheda…
1. Except DD, no news agency was allowed to cover the funeral programme. DD’s focus was only on Modi and Shah. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s family was barely shown.
2. Only 3 chairs were kept for Manmohan Singh’s family. Congress leaders had to ask for seats for daughters and other members of their families.
3. The PM and the ministers did not stand up when the national flag was handed over to his widow and when the gun salute was given to Manmohan Singh.
4. Adequate space was not given to the family near Manmohan Singh’s funeral pyre. The soldiers had taken up space on one side.
5. The public was kept out. People kept watching the program only from outside.
6. Amit Shah’s convoy disrupted the last journey. The family vehicles were left outside, the gate was closed. The family members had to be found and brought inside.
7. Dr Singh’s grandchildren had to face hurdles in reaching the pyre to perform the last rites.
8. Foreign diplomats were seated at a separate place and were not visible. The King of Bhutan stood up, but the PM did not bother to stand up.
9. The funeral venue was very cramped and disorganized. There was no room for many people in the procession.

Controversy increases regarding Dr. Singh’s memorial
On Congress’s allegation of not giving land for Manmohan Singh’s memorial, BJP President JP Nadda said on Saturday – Space has been allotted for Dr. Singh’s memorial. His family has also been informed about this. However, Nadda did not tell where the land was given.
Nadda said- Leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are doing politics even on the death of Manmohan Singh. Congress never respected Manmohan Singh while he was alive, and is now doing politics in the name of his honour.
On December 27, Kharge had asked for land for the memorial. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday evening. It was said that a memorial should be built wherever Dr. Singh’s last rites take place. According to Congress sources, Dr. Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur also wanted the same.
On this, the Home Ministry had said, ‘Nigambodh Ghat has been chosen for the last rites. The memorial will be built in Delhi. A suitable place will be found for this and a trust will be formed. The process will take time.

Dr. Singh was the first Prime Minister outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to hold the post of PM for 10 years. Today, in this hour of sorrow, politics should be avoided. PM Modi’s government has risen above party sentiments and given respect to all the leaders.
