On September 5, the CBI investigation revealed that the very next day after the rape-murder of the trainee doctor, Sandeep Ghosh had ordered the renovation of the rooms adjoining the seminar hall. The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall on the morning of August 9.
According to sources, CBI has received documents which confirm that Sandeep Ghosh had written a letter on August 10 asking the State Public Works Department (PWD) to renovate the room and toilet attached to the seminar hall. Ghosh’s signature is also on this permission letter.
The PWD staff had started renovating the room adjoining the seminar hall. However, the college students had started protesting on a large scale regarding this case, due to which the renovation work was stopped there.
Investigating officers say that the renovation letter clearly shows that Ghosh was in a hurry to get the work done, so this document could help link the rape-murder case with the financial irregularities at RG Kar College.
Sandip Ghosh is already in custody, accused of corruption The CBI had arrested him on 16 August in connection with corruption in RG Kar College. On 24 August, a case of financial irregularities was registered against Ghosh. The CBI took this action on the orders of the Calcutta High Court. After this, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) suspended the membership of Sandeep Ghosh on 28 August.

Disclosures related to financial irregularities in CBI investigation…
- Sandip Ghosh introduced an interview system for the appointment of medical house staff. However, there was no panel of interviewers in the hospital. Final marks of the interview were issued before appointment. Ghosh is also accused of not appointing many qualified trainee doctors.
- Sandeep Ghosh was posted at Murshidabad Medical College between 2016 and 2018. He knew Biplab and Suman since then. Ghosh ran a corruption network with his security guards, Biplab and Suman.
- After Ghosh became the principal of RG Kar Medical College, he called Biplab and Suman to Kolkata. He got many hospital tenders for both the vendors. Ghosh’s guard also used to contract with vendors to sell the hospital’s biomedical waste.
- Biplab used to run many companies including Maa Tara Traders, Baba Loknath, Tiyasha Enterprises. He used to apply for tenders in the hospital in the name of all these companies. So that there is competition in the market for the tender. In this, only one company used to get the tender.
- CBI has also found many flaws in the way tenders were given to Biplab’s companies. CBI said that work order letters were written to many officials of the college, but these letters were never handed over to them. This means that other officials were not involved in the tender process.
- According to the agency, Ghosh’s guard’s wife Nargis’ company Ishan Cafe got the canteen contract in the hospital. Sandeep Ghosh also returned the non-refundable caution money to the guard’s wife’s company.
