There is opposition to India’s transit corridor in Bangladesh. Opposition leader Nahid Islam alleged during a rally in Dhaka on Friday that Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s government is preparing to give transit corridor to India in Bangladesh. He said that the land of Bangladesh will not be given to India. Transit corridor means using the land and roads of one country to transport goods to some part of another country. This can reduce the distance and time taken to deliver goods. Nahid also asked the government to take a strict stance regarding the Ganga water agreement. He said that if Bangladesh’s interests were not kept in mind while renewing the agreement, people would take to the streets in protest. Anti-India slogans were also raised in Nahid Islam’s rally. A large-scale demonstration was also held in Dhaka under the leadership of National Citizen Party leader Nahid Islam against the Tariq Rahman government. The protesters were angry over rising inflation, power crisis and shortage of petrol, diesel and gas. He demanded the resignation of the Home Minister and the Energy Minister. During this, the protesters also raised anti-India slogans. Slogans of ‘Delhi Nahi, Dhaka Dhaka’ were raised in the rally. Why did the corridor issue arise after the Japan tour? Actually, Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman was on a tour of Japan from 26 to 29 October. During this, an agreement was reached between Japan and Bangladesh to increase trade and movement around the Bay of Bengal. Japan is also building a big port named Matarbari in Bangladesh. Through this, the convenience of transporting goods by sea will increase. According to a plan of Japan, this port can be connected to the north-eastern states of India. For this, road and other connectivity routes through Bangladesh will be used. This can make it easier to deliver goods to the north-eastern states of India. Also, India’s trade can expand to the countries of South-East Asia. Nahid Islam has expressed opposition to this plan. There was no discussion about India during the Japan tour. Bangladesh Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said on Friday that there was no discussion about India or any other country during Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s visit to Japan. According to Dhaka Tribune, Kabir told journalists that the talks with Japan were only regarding the economic relations between Bangladesh and Japan. Kabir said that if an issue related to any other country had to be discussed, representatives of that country would also have been included in the talks. India said- Will increase North-East related work with Japan. On October 28, India had talked about further strengthening its relations with Japan. It also includes schemes related to the North-Eastern states of India. This statement came hours after the meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman and Japan Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. India’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that we have a very strong partnership with Japan. There are many schemes related to the North-Eastern states of India and Japan. We want to further strengthen these relationships. Ganga Water Agreement is ending on 12 December. This agreement was signed between India and Bangladesh on 12 December 1996 for 30 years. Under this, the water of Ganga is distributed between January and May. This is the time when there is less water in the river. Water is distributed at Farakka Barrage in West Bengal. Bangladesh wants the new agreement to be for more years. Also, it should have such conditions that it continues to get its fixed share of water even during the dry season. India says that issues related to water sharing and 54 rivers flowing between the two countries are discussed through the Joint River Commission (JRC). This commission was started in 1972. Its job is to work together on issues related to rivers between the two countries. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said in September that talks are going on at the technical level between the officials of the two countries regarding the Ganga water agreement. ——————————— Also read this news… Iran bought military goods by dodging the American blockade: Report – Created a network of 5000 fake agencies, got missile parts from China and Russia.
