Overseas theatrical rights of Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘King’ have been sold for Rs 175 crore. According to Pinkvilla’s report, Fars Films has bought these rights. This is being said to be the biggest overseas rights deal in the history of Indian cinema. This is a big deal to release the film abroad. To break even, ‘King’ will have to earn around Rs 350-375 crore at the international box office. Break even means that there is neither profit nor loss in the business. That means, you get back the amount of money invested. Let us tell you that till now the overseas rights of Shahrukh’s films have been with Yash Raj Films. Yash Raj Films had released ‘Pathan’ and ‘Jawaan’ overseas in 2023. ‘Pathan’ was made under the banner of Yash Raj Films. Shahrukh Khan was in the lead role in ‘Jawaan’. Both films were huge successes abroad. Fars Films has experience in overseas distribution. The company has partnered with many films of Yash Raj Films. Fars Films had distributed Prabhas’ ‘Saaho’ alone in foreign countries. According to the report, the company has given a minimum guarantee (MG) of Rs 175 crore for the rights of ‘King’. Till now the overseas rights of any Indian film had not reached Rs 100 crore. In such a situation, this deal is a new record. Generally, commission model is adopted for overseas distribution of Bollywood films. In this, the distributor takes commission instead of purchasing the rights of the film. Yash Raj Films had released ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Dinky’ abroad on this model. The same plan was earlier for ‘King’ also. But Fars Films offered such a huge amount that the deal changed. The challenge of earning big for King is that the minimum guarantee given for a film shows the confidence of the distributor. Distributors in foreign countries typically receive 50% of the box office gross. According to this, ‘King’ will have to earn 37-40 million dollars just to break even. This amount is equivalent to approximately Rs 350-375 crore in Indian currency. ‘Pathan’ and ‘Jawaan’, among Shahrukh’s most successful films, had earned around Rs 400-400 crore in foreign countries. ‘King’ will have to earn at least this much to be profitable. To be successful, the overseas earnings of ‘King’ will have to reach close to Rs 460 crore of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ or Rs 430 crore of ‘RRR’. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ and ‘RRR’ are among the biggest overseas successful films of Indian cinema. ‘King’ is being directed by Siddharth Anand. The film is jointly produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. Shahrukh will be seen in a new action avatar in the film. Apart from Shahrukh, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukherjee, Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan, Anil Kapoor, Abhay Verma and Arshad Warsi will also be seen in the film. King’s story is based on the journey of a mentor and a disciple who struggle for survival in difficult circumstances. There will be a big clash in Christmas 2026. King will be released during Christmas 2026, when Hollywood films like Jumanji, Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 will also be released. Considering this competition, a bigger theatrical release is being planned for the film. Bollywood Hungama’s report had revealed that film distribution company Pen Marudhar had bought the All India distribution rights of King for Rs 250 crore. Let us tell you that Penn Marudhar has a long association with Shahrukh Khan’s production house. The company has previously released films like Jawan, Danky, Zero, Badla and Ittefaq. A.A. Films, Jio Studios, PVR Inox Pictures, Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions also bid for the domestic rights of the film. Special things related to the film ‘King’-
