A B.Tech graduate from Pune has turned an unconventional career journey into an inspiring story of professional growth. Sanketh began his career working at a call centre before joining Amazon as a Customer Service Associate through campus placements. Today, he works in a technical role in Singapore.

His journey highlights how communication skills, continuous learning and the willingness to explore new opportunities can help professionals move into different career paths.

How A Call Centre Job Helped Him Build A Career In Tech

Sanketh’s first job at a call centre helped him develop empathy and communication skills. These abilities proved valuable throughout his career, including during his time at Amazon.

Although he had a B.Tech degree, he initially joined Amazon in a non-technical role as a Customer Service Associate. However, he continued exploring opportunities to move into technology while working at the company.

Sanketh eventually transitioned into a technical role through Amazon’s internal recruitment process. During this period, he explored different areas, including machine learning (ML) and cloud computing, before deciding to build his career in the cloud domain.

To strengthen his technical knowledge and demonstrate his skills, he earned several industry-recognised certifications.

These include:

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate

AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate

HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate

Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

His focus on developing specialised skills helped him progress from a customer service position to a technical career.

Sanketh is now working in a tech role in Singapore, where he is settled with his wife. His journey illustrates how professionals can change career directions by identifying their interests, building relevant skills and making use of opportunities within an organisation.

His experience also highlights the value of transferable skills. The empathy and communication abilities he developed at the call centre remained useful even as he moved into a technology-focused role.

Sanketh’s career path offers a reminder that a person’s first job does not necessarily determine their long-term career. With consistent effort, relevant certifications and a willingness to learn, professionals can explore new possibilities and work towards their goals.
