The participants blew conch shells for five and a half minutes.

On Sunday, 517 devotees created Guinness World Records by blowing conch shells together in Nashik, Maharashtra. This event took place on the banks of river Godavari. This event was organized before the flag hoisting ceremony of Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

The participants blew the conch for five minutes and 30 seconds. According to the organizers, specially certified conch shells were brought from Chennai for the event.

Guinness World Records senior judge Rishi Nath announced the record in Devmamaledar Yashwant Maharaj Patangan. Earlier, in 2019, the record for blowing conch simultaneously was held by 303 people in New Jersey, USA.

The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela is a major Hindu religious event held every 12 years in both the holy cities. This fair will run from 31 October to 24 July 2028.

President Murmu will attend the flag hoisting

NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh said this initiative will help connect the tradition with the auspicious beginning of the Kumbh Mela. He informed that 251 participants will blow conch shells during the flag hoisting ceremony on October 31.

The flag hoisting ceremony of Kumbh Mela will take place on October 31 at 12:02 pm in Ramkund. President Draupadi Murmu has been invited to this function. Guinness World Records certificate will also be handed over in the same programme.

Crores of people likely to attend Kumbh Mela

During the 20 month long Kumbh Mela, 44 Muhurats are in Nashik and 53 Muhurats are in Trimbakeshwar. The government estimates that 8-10 crore devotees will come to Nashik and 4 crore to Trimbakeshwar.

The special thing about Nashik Kumbh is that here Vaishnav and Shaiva Akharas take bath at different pilgrimage sites. Nashik and Trimbakeshwar are seen as two major centers of the same event.

Why is it called Simhastha Kumbh

Nashik’s Kumbh is called Simhastha because in its traditional astrological calculations the entry of Jupiter into Leo has special significance. The dates of Kumbh are not decided only on the basis of the normal calendar; In these, religious traditions, planetary positions and the consent of the Akharas play a role.

According to Hindu belief, during the churning of the ocean there was a conflict between the gods and demons over the nectar pot. It is believed that the drops of nectar fell at four places – Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. For this reason, the tradition of Kumbh Mela is associated with these places.
