US President Donald Trump on Sunday ruled out a US strike on Iran for October 25, saying there would be no American attack on the country that day.

Asked by a reporter whether the US would launch an attack on Iran, Trump first replied, “Would I tell you that?” He then added, “The answer is no. There will not be a strike today,” according to a report by Al Jazeera.

Trump Leaves Future Military Action Open

Trump’s statement applies to Sunday and does not rule out possible US military action against Iran at a later date.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump said he was still weighing whether to reach an agreement with Tehran or continue military action, saying the choice was whether to “finish the job” or make a deal.

The remarks marked a shift from Trump’s earlier indication that the US could potentially strike Iran as soon as Sunday.

US-Iran Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Iran has said diplomatic messages are still being exchanged with the US through intermediaries, even though negotiations between the two sides remain stalled.

Tehran has rejected US demands that it regards as requiring “complete surrender”, while maintaining that a diplomatic channel remains open.

Qatari mediators were also in Tehran on Sunday as part of efforts coordinated with Washington to reduce tensions, according to a source briefed on the discussions.

Strait Of Hormuz Remains Key Flashpoint

The Strait of Hormuz remains a major issue in the US-Iran standoff because of its importance for international energy shipments.

Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan said Tehran had conveyed through Pakistani mediators that it was prepared to reopen the strait if Washington lifted its naval blockade, although an IRGC-affiliated Iranian outlet disputed the account and said no new proposal had been made.

The conflicting accounts underline the uncertainty surrounding diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran as tensions continue across West Asia.

For now, Trump has ruled out a US strike on Iran for October 25, but his remarks leave open the possibility of further military or diplomatic developments.
