The final voter list has been released in Karnataka after Special Intensive Revision (SIR). There are 4.55 crore voters registered in it. Before SIR, there were 5.54 crore voters in the state. That means the number of voters in the final list decreased by 99.32 lakh. The final list was released on Tuesday, October 27. There are 2.26 crore men, 2.29 crore women and 2,841 third gender voters. This number is about 17.92% less than the initial voter list. There were 4.46 crore general voters in the draft list released on August 24. The draft list had 1.08 crore voters less than the number before SIR. After claims and objections, 8.64 lakh voters were added to the final list. Despite this, there are about one crore voters less in the final list than the number before SIR. Door-to-door verification was done between June 30 and August 17. 60,923 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) did door-to-door verification. During this period, enumeration forms of 5.54 crore voters were made. Of these, 4.46 crore voters submitted forms. This is 80.52% of the total number. 1.08 crore voters did not submit the forms. These constitute 19.48% of the total number and were not included in the draft list. Possible reasons for this are also given in the data of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Karnataka. Of these, 19.01 lakh voters were found absent. Apart from this, 65.46 lakh voters had permanently shifted to another place. 16.40 lakh voters had died. 7.10 lakh names were found duplicate or already registered. Changes after claims and objections A total of 10.08 lakh names were added during the claims and objections period. Of these, 8.77 lakh names were added from Form 6, 2,312 from Form 6A and 1.29 lakh names were added from Form 8 for change of place. In this process 1.88 lakh names were removed. At the same time, changes or corrections were made in 8.97 lakh names. Notices were issued to 43.83 lakh voters as details did not match during verification. According to the CEO office, all the notices were delivered and a hearing was also held. After verification, 61,867 voters were found ineligible for inclusion in the final list. Name checking and appeal facility The CEO office has asked voters to check their names. The names can be checked in the offices of the Electoral Registration Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and BLOs. The final voter list is also available on the website of CEO Karnataka and Voter Services Portal of the Election Commission. A person dissatisfied with the decision of the Electoral Registration Officer can appeal to the District Magistrate under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. After this, a second appeal can be made to the Chief Electoral Officer under Section 24(b). This information has been given in the statement issued. The process was implemented on 224 assembly seats. This process took place on all the 224 assembly seats of Karnataka. According to the CEO office, it was attended by election officials, BLOs and representatives of seven recognized political parties. These parties include AAP, BSP, BJP, CPI(M), INC, NPP and JD(S). The CEO office thanked the BLOs for door-to-door verification of 5.54 crore voters and hearing of 43.83 lakh voters. The office also expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the voters. He reiterated the objective of SIR—“No eligible citizen should be left out and no ineligible person should be included in the voter list.” Congress protests Meanwhile, Congress has strongly criticized this entire process. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said it is the duty of the state government and the party to protect voters. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding to stop the ongoing SIR process across the country and suspending CEC Gyanesh Kumar. He has alleged irregularities in the process.
