Rubio toured the world’s largest single-site oil-refining complex, the Vantara wildlife rescue and conservation centre, and Reliance’s emerging clean-energy manufacturing hub.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited Anant Ambani with wife Radhika Merchant, in Jamnagar.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday visited Reliance Industries’ sprawling Jamnagar complex in Gujarat, highlighting Washington’s push to deepen energy ties with India through greater American energy exports, refining cooperation and investment.
Accompanied by his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, Rubio toured the world’s largest single-site oil-refining complex, the Vantara wildlife rescue and conservation centre, and Reliance’s emerging clean-energy manufacturing hub.
Focus On Energy Cooperation
The visit came a day after Rubio called India as a crude-refining “superpower” and urged it to process more Venezuelan oil. Washington is seeking to expand energy sales to India and encourage the processing of crude from the Western Hemisphere.
Reliance Industries said Rubio and Gor were briefed on its new energy giga-factories, being commissioned in phases, and data centres under construction.
“Discussions also explored the increasing intersection of energy and digital infrastructure, including the role of dependable power in supporting data centres and the expansion of the digital economy,” the company said in a statement.

It added that Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant Ambani discussed opportunities for collaboration with US companies, drawing on shared strengths in technology, engineering and advanced manufacturing.
“The interaction provided a constructive opportunity to exchange industry perspectives and explore areas of mutual commercial interest,” the statement added.
US Eyes Bigger Energy Market
Reliance’s Jamnagar complex can process around 1.4 million barrels of crude oil a day and is a major supplier of refined fuels to global markets. Its ability to handle different grades of crude makes it important to Washington’s efforts to encourage Indian purchases of Venezuelan oil.
Gor said US liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) had increased sharply as a share of India’s imports.
“Over the past year, India’s imports of US LPG have surged from under 10 per cent to 67 per cent, making the United States India’s largest LPG supplier,” he said in a post on X.
Texas Project Adds To Ties
Reliance’s proposed refinery in Brownsville, Texas, adds another dimension to the partnership. Designed to process 168,000 barrels of crude a day, the project could become the first major new US refinery in about five decades.
Reliance has signed a long-term agreement to buy its refined products.
The Jamnagar visit followed Rubio’s talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Mumbai on Tuesday, covering energy, trade, investment, defence and critical technologies.
The two countries are also working to resolve outstanding differences over a trade deal, with Rubio saying only “a small number of items” remained unresolved.
