Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has issued a notice to Bollywood actor Imran Khan, who was detained during the CJP protest in Mumbai, to leave India by October 28.
Imran Khan, an American citizen and OCI card holder, is preparing to approach the Bombay High Court against this order. His lawyers say he was not part of the demonstration but was just passing through.
The film industry has been divided into two parts on this action. Kiran Rao and Saba Azad have raised questions on the police action, while Gajendra Chauhan and Raza Murad have supported the government’s decision.
Kiran Rao and Saba Azad expressed protest
After the news of FRRO notice came out, reactions of Bollywood celebs have also come to light. Filmmaker and Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao shared the news on her Instagram story and wrote, “Wow, now Mumbai Police is doing this?”

Actress Saba Azad also expressed her displeasure over this action of the police and wrote, “What!? This is completely wrong.” Let us tell you that during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demonstration at August Kranti Maidan on October 10, the police had detained more than 400 people including Imran Khan, his partner Lekha Washington and cousin Jain Marie Khan and later released them.

Gajendra Chauhan and Raza Murad supported the action
Actor Gajendra Chauhan praised the action of FRRO and the government in this matter. He said that Imran Khan is not an Indian citizen, hence his participation in the protest is a violation of the law. Chouhan said, “I am very happy that the traitors hiding in the country have been asked to go out. Imran Khan should be given a strict order to expel him from the country within 24 hours instead of October 28.”
Senior actor Raza Murad also said that no foreign citizen has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of India. He said that by giving them 15 days time, the police acted completely as per the legal process.

Imran will challenge the order in the High Court
According to NDTV report, Imran Khan’s legal team will file a petition in the Bombay High Court next week. His advocate Zulfikar Memon told that on October 10, Imran Khan was passing through Nana Chowk when he gave the statement when the road was closed and media persons asked questions.
The legal team has demanded the police to release CCTV footage of the area to make it clear that Imran was not involved as a protestor.
Just before being taken into custody, Imran had said that as a city resident, he had come there to see the restrictions and the suppressed voice of the people.

Imran had also shared the picture of the custody from the police van.
The whole controversy started with Kirit Somaiya’s complaint
This whole matter started after the complaint of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya. Somaiya had written a letter to Mumbai Police and FRRO alleging that Imran Khan, being an American citizen, participating in the political protest is a direct violation of OCI rules and visa conditions.
According to the Citizenship Act, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders get the facility to reside and move in India, but they are not allowed to have any political rights or participate in the movement in India. This entire legal action has started due to CJP’s participation in the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
