The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday sought information about the whereabouts of its founder Abhijeet Dipke after his detention by Delhi Police, while the All India Students’ Association (AISA) said its president Neha Bora had been traced to the RK Puram police station after hours of uncertainty.
AISA said its lawyers met Bora at the police station around midnight after she was allegedly moved between locations across Delhi for nearly five hours.
The organisation claimed that police had not clarified when she would be released and alleged that she was being denied medicines despite being unwell.
Delhi Police sources said Dipke was detained in Jhandewalan while on his way to Connaught Place, and Bora was picked up at Mandi House. Police said around 150 people had been detained to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement.
CJP Seeks Dipke’s Location
In a post on X, CJP alleged that Dipke had been taken to an undisclosed location and that his associates had lost contact with him.
“The Delhi Police has taken Abhijeet Dipke to an undisclosed location. We have lost contact with him. He is not being allowed to talk to lawyers,” the party said.
“Why does this government treat youth like terrorists? We are equal citizens of India and we deserve all the protections and rights of the Constitution!” it added.
CJP leader Rohan Deshpande also wrote to the station house officer of Mandir Marg police station, seeking details of Dipke’s location, the legal provisions invoked and the grounds for his preventive detention.
The party urged police to disclose who had ordered the detention and ensure that Dipke could contact his colleagues and access legal counsel.
AISA Alleges Repeated Shifts
AISA said Bora was initially taken to an Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility in south-west Delhi before being moved elsewhere. It questioned why she was being held late at night and demanded clarity on her release.
Former AISA president and CPI(ML) Liberation leader N Sai Balaji also questioned the police over her reported movements, while CPI(M) MP John Brittas said Bora had been taken away without her phone while on her way to join the protest.
“Detention cannot become disappearance,” Brittas said in a post on X, urging police to disclose her location and explain the grounds for her detention.
Dipke was detained by Delhi Police outside the house where he was staying ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march called by CJP at Connaught Place, while Bora was picked up at Mandi House while on her way to join the protest. Police had denied permission for the march, citing prohibitory orders in the area.
Security was stepped up across New Delhi, with Central Park cordoned off and Rapid Action Force personnel deployed.
