Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for dialogue between Pakistan’s government and opposition, arguing that political and security challenges cannot be resolved through force or military-style measures.

Rehman made the remarks after meeting a delegation of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Ainey-e-Pakistan at his residence. The delegation included Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.

The opposition leaders also invited Rehman to participate in an All Parties Conference (APC) as efforts continue to bring opposition parties onto a common platform.

PTI Has A Right To Protest, Says Fazlur Rehman

Rehman backed the PTI’s right to hold its long march, saying peaceful political activity should not be obstructed by the government.

“A long march is a democratic right and PTI should be allowed to exercise that right,” he said.

“When political parties announce that they will remain peaceful, they should be trusted,” Rehman added.

His remarks come amid heightened tensions between the government and opposition, with the PTI’s protest campaign adding to an already strained political environment.

Calls For Dialogue, Political Moderation

Rehman said Pakistan’s political situation was suffering from an imbalance and called for broader consultations among political parties to move the country towards political moderation.

“We were not a part of the negotiations, but in principle, we do not oppose the process of dialogue,” he said.

The JUI-F chief has opposed a force-based approach to political and security problems, arguing that military operations and excessive use of force cannot provide a lasting solution to the country’s crises.

He has also called for the release of political prisoners and criticised political intolerance and pressure on opposition parties, while stressing the need for equal political rights.

Rehman rejected the idea that any one political force could claim exclusive ownership of patriotism and called for political disputes to be settled through talks and consensus.

‘Behind-The-Scenes Forces’ And Negotiations

Rehman also addressed the role of forces operating outside the formal political process, saying their involvement in negotiations could be crucial to reaching a settlement.

He observed that if forces operating behind the scenes became part of the negotiations, it would be possible to reach a conclusion through dialogue.

The JUI-F chief has maintained that political parties should be able to determine the country’s political course without allowing confrontation among the government, opposition and state institutions to deepen.

Invited To All Parties Conference

Rehman confirmed that he had been invited to the proposed APC but said the JUI-F would consult internally before deciding its position.

“We have told the opposition to consider this matter in detail, while we will also consult our party. A joint agenda should emerge through consultation among all political parties at the APC,” he said.

The proposed conference is aimed at developing a broader opposition approach as Pakistan grapples with political confrontation, economic pressures and continuing security challenges.
