Failing the UPSC Civil Services Examination can be discouraging for many aspirants, particularly after investing years in preparation. But for Sudarshan Ravankole, three unsuccessful attempts eventually led him to a different career path — one that has now resulted in a reported Rs 17 lakh annual job offer.
Ravankole completed his B.Tech in Computer Science in 2018. Instead of immediately entering the technology sector, he spent the following years preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and appeared for the exam three times.
After failing to clear the examination, Ravankole decided to explore cloud technology. He then travelled to Hyderabad and enrolled in an AWS coaching programme. However, he eventually dropped out after finding that the course did not match what he wanted to learn, reported News18 Hindi.
Learning Cloud And DevOps Through YouTube
Ravankole then chose to learn independently. He reportedly began studying cloud computing and DevOps through the CloudDevOpsHub YouTube channel.
Instead of paying for another formal programme, he relied on online resources and regular practice to build his technical skills. As his understanding and confidence improved, he began applying for jobs.
However, getting shortlisted proved to be another challenge. Despite having the required technical skills, his applications were not attracting recruiters. Ravankole then identified a problem with his job applications: he was using the same resume for different positions.
He began studying each job description before applying and tailoring his resume to highlight the skills and experience relevant to the particular role.
According to the account shared about his career journey, this approach gradually improved his chances of getting shortlisted and led to more interview opportunities.
After continued efforts, Ravankole reportedly received an offer from Kernellon Global Solutions for a DevOps Engineer position with an annual package of Rs 17 lakh.
Ravankole’s journey offers a broader lesson for candidates who spend years preparing for competitive examinations: an unsuccessful attempt at one career path does not necessarily mean the end of professional opportunities. Skills acquired along the way, combined with a willingness to retrain and adapt, can open up alternative career routes.
