Adhikari had then said, “Mobile phones have a very negative impact on school children. This will be a difficult decision and may cost me votes.” He had said, “In Gujarat, mobile phones are banned for students up to class 12. Even after their parents sleep, students remain awake and look at mobile phones.” Free Smartphone Scheme in Many States Many states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim are providing financial help to students to buy free smartphone, tablet or laptop. ‘Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme’ in UP and Free Gadget Scheme in Tamil Nadu are examples of this. These schemes have provided great help to poor students in online studies, preparation for competitive exams and learning digital skills.
