Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed foreign delegates to the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, emphasising the bloc’s people-centric approach and the need for international reform.

“It gives me immense pleasure to welcome and greet all of you to India. India’s BRICS chairship is based on a people-centric and humanity-first approach. Resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability have been our priorities. With these priorities, we have placed special emphasis on connecting the BRICS chairship with the common people,” PM Modi said at the opening session of the BRICS Summit.

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to all partner countries for making India’s BRICS chairmanship a success, adding that the grouping had established a distinct identity on the global stage and it was time to translate the consensus into tangible results.

‘We Are Not Against Anyone’

The Prime Minister also stressed that member nations of BRICS respect each other’s perspectives and move forward through consensus. “We are not against anyone, but we try to take everyone along,” he said in his address.

He also called for global governance reform, citing the need to turn the “pyramid of power and privilege” into a platform of partnership for the next 20 years.
