Delhi BRICS Summit: Here’s what will remain open and what will be shut in Delhi from September 11 to 13.

BRICS Summit 2026: Delhi is set for heightened security and traffic restrictions as the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13.
With heads of state, foreign delegations and other dignitaries expected to move through the national capital, restrictions will be in place across several parts of Delhi.
Here’s what will remain open and what will be shut in Delhi from September 11 to 13.
What Will Remain Closed?
Schools
All government, government-aided and recognised unaided private schools under the Delhi Directorate of Education will remain closed on Friday, September 11, amid security and traffic arrangements for the BRICS Summit.
Government Offices
All Delhi government offices, autonomous bodies and Public Sector Undertakings under the NCT of Delhi will remain closed on September 11.
The Lieutenant Governor has declared September 11 a public holiday in Delhi in view of the BRICS Summit.

What Will Remain Open?
Banks
Banks will remain open in Delhi on September 11. The date is not listed as a bank holiday in the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar.
Private Offices
Private offices will continue to function as usual. However, employees travelling through central Delhi and other areas affected by VVIP movement may face traffic restrictions, diversions and delays.
Delhi Metro
Delhi Metro services will remain operational across the network during the summit.
However, the Delhi Metro Museum at Supreme Court Metro station will remain closed from September 11 to 13.
What About Buses, Cabs And Roads?
Bus Diversions
Delhi buses may be diverted or temporarily regulated during the movement of foreign dignitaries and VVIP convoys. Commuters should check traffic advisories before starting their journey.
Cab Services
Cab aggregators will continue to operate, but drivers have been advised not to keep pick-up and drop-off points in restricted or controlled areas during VVIP movements.
Traffic Restrictions
Delhi Traffic Police has prepared an elaborate traffic plan for the movement of heads of state, foreign delegations and other dignitaries. Nearly 4,800 traffic personnel have been deployed for the summit arrangements.

Traffic will be regulated at 22 identified diversion points during motorcade rehearsals and VVIP movements.
More than 35 roads are expected to be affected at different times, including Mathura Road, Sardar Patel Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg and APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
The restrictions are expected to begin from September 10 and continue until around September 14, with traffic being diverted or temporarily halted depending on VVIP movements.
Who Is Likely To Face The Most Trouble?
Noida And East Delhi Commuters
People travelling from Noida and east Delhi towards Pragati Maidan, central Delhi and other parts of the city could face delays because of restrictions on key connecting roads.
Dwarka And West Delhi
Commuters travelling from Dwarka and west Delhi towards Dhaula Kuan, the airport and central Delhi may also encounter diversions and congestion during VVIP movements.
South Delhi
The movement of the Egyptian delegation between its hotel in Saket and central Delhi could put additional pressure on roads in south Delhi, particularly during peak hours.
Airport And Railway Passengers
People travelling to airports, railway stations and inter-state bus terminals have been advised to leave early and keep additional travel time in hand. Delhi Metro has been recommended wherever possible.
Will Parking Be Allowed?
Roadside parking will not be permitted within 200 metres of roads where traffic restrictions are in force.
Motorists have been advised to use designated parking facilities and avoid parking on or near restricted stretches.
Will Google Maps And Other Navigation Apps Show The Restrictions?
Delhi Traffic Police has held meetings with online map service providers ahead of the summit.
The platforms will coordinate with traffic authorities and incorporate restrictions, diversions and alternate routes in real time to help commuters navigate affected areas.
What Should Delhi Commuters Do?
Traffic restrictions will not necessarily remain in force throughout the day. Officials said they will be imposed or relaxed depending on the movement of VVIP convoys.
Commuters are advised to check traffic advisories before leaving, avoid restricted routes wherever possible and use the Metro for journeys through affected parts of the city.
With schools and Delhi government offices closed on September 11, while banks, private offices and Metro services remain operational, the impact of the BRICS Summit will vary depending on where and how people travel across the capital.
