The Army Chief stressed the need to maintain a high level of operational readiness while continuously adapting to emerging threats and technologies.
Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth visited the headquarters of the Indian Army’s Southern Command.
Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth reviewed the operational preparedness of the Indian Army’s Southern Command during his visit to its headquarters in Pune on Monday, with a focus on combat readiness, technology absorption and preparing troops for the changing nature of warfare.
General Seth was briefed by Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, on the prevailing operational environment, the command’s operational posture and the training and capability enhancement measures being undertaken.
The briefing also covered initiatives aimed at improving the command’s combat effectiveness and ensuring that troops remain prepared for evolving operational challenges.
Interacting with commanders and troops, the Army Chief stressed the need to maintain a high level of operational readiness while continuously adapting to emerging threats and technologies.
He underlined the importance of realistic and demanding training, faster absorption of new technology and regular refinement of warfighting skills and Techniques, Tactics and Procedures (TTPs).
General Seth also called for greater jointness among the armed forces and stronger focus on indigenous capability development. He said these elements would be critical in building an agile and technologically empowered Army capable of responding effectively to future security challenges.
The COAS commended the professionalism and commitment of personnel serving under Southern Command and urged them to remain focused on their missions while maintaining the highest standards of operational preparedness.
The visit also had a special focus on the Army’s continuing relationship with its veterans.
General Dhiraj Seth felicitated distinguished veterans with the Yoddha Seva Samman, recognising their contribution to areas including veteran welfare, youth empowerment, environmental conservation and community service.
The honours acknowledged the veterans’ continued commitment to society even after their active military service.
The Army Chief highlighted the enduring contribution of veterans to nation-building and their continued association with the armed forces. He emphasised that the relationship between the Army and its veterans extends beyond active service and remains a lifelong bond.
The visit comes as the Indian Army continues to focus on modernising its capabilities, strengthening joint operations and adapting its training and operational doctrines to meet the changing character of warfare.
For Southern Command, the COAS’s review provided an opportunity to assess its preparedness while reinforcing the importance of maintaining an operational edge through training, technology, innovation and indigenous capability development.
