CBSE has postponed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026 exam. The exam was scheduled for September 6. However, the board has now postponed the exam and extended the application process until September 1. CBSE has stated that a new exam date will be announced later.

The Board opened the CTET application window following a Supreme Court directive. In its decision on the review petition, the Supreme Court emphasised the need to provide eligible teachers with a reasonable opportunity to meet the statutory requirement of obtaining the prescribed Teacher Eligibility Test qualification. In light of this, candidates who were unable to apply for the CTET have been given another opportunity. Applications can be made by visiting the official website, ctet.nic.in.

In its notice, the CBSE wrote, “As notified vide Public Notice dated 08.05.2026, the online application process for the 22nd Edition of the CTET was open from 11.05.2026 to 10.06.2026. The Hon’ble Supreme Court, vide its judgment in Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025 in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, has emphasised the need to afford eligible teachers a reasonable opportunity to comply with the statutory requirement of acquiring the prescribed TET qualification.”

“In view of the aforesaid and in the larger interest of candidates, it has been decided to provide an opportunity to all eligible candidates who could not avail themselves of the earlier application window by opening the online application portal from 25.08.2026 to 01.09.2026. Candidates who have already successfully completed and submitted their applications need not apply again. The revised date of 22nd Edition of CTET examination will be announced after closure of the portal,” the notice added.

Step 4 – Upload a scanned photograph and signature in the prescribed format

Step 5 – Pay the application fee using online payment modes

Step 6 – Submit the form and download a copy for future reference

CTET 2026 Application Fees

General and OBC-NCL candidates need to pay Rs 1000 for one paper and Rs 1200 for both papers. For SC, ST, and Divyang candidates, the CTET application fee is Rs 500 for one paper and Rs 600 for both papers.
