US-Iran War News LIVE Updates: US President Donald Trump has vowed a strong military response after Iran launched missiles at a US base in Jordan late Tuesday.
“We’ll be hitting them hard… We are going to beat the ‘effing s’ out of them,” Trump told Fox News on Wednesday, warning of retaliation days after pausing US airstrikes on Iran.
The latest escalation comes as the US and Saudi Arabia carried out their first joint military strikes against Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq. Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces said at least 20 of its members were killed and 32 injured in the strikes, while The New York Timesciting a US official, reported that around 20 Iranian advisers, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), were also killed.
The strikes were launched after drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities, which Riyadh blamed on Iran-backed groups operating from Iraq.
In another development, a fire broke out on a US-owned gas storage tanker at Egypt’s Damietta port late on Wednesday after what British maritime security firm Ambrey said was a drone strike in its initial assessment. Egypt’s petroleum ministry confirmed the fire but did not mention a drone attack. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the incident.
