Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and dark skies on Tuesday as the IMD issued a red alert. Waterlogging and traffic congestion were reported from several areas.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and dark, overcast skies lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to upgrade its weather warning and issue a red alert for the national capital.
The spell of intense rainfall quickly transformed the weather across the region.
Thick clouds engulfed the skyline as heavy showers swept through central and south Delhi before spreading to other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).
Gusty winds and thunder were also reported from several localities.
Visuals from the Parliament premises showed the iconic government complex under intense showers, with visibility reducing significantly due to the downpour.
Heavy rainfall was also reported from Prithviraj Road, where roads were soaked under persistent rain. The area witnessed continuous showers as dark skies covered the city.
At Mandi House, heavy rain resulted in waterlogging on roads. Vehicles were seen moving cautiously amid reduced visibility.
The Shankar Vihar area also witnessed intense rainfall. Heavy showers continued to lash the locality, with traffic moving slowly due to the weather conditions.

Across the NCR, Noida’s Sector 98 also received heavy rainfall. Visuals showed rain sweeping across the area as dark clouds blanketed the sky.
Traffic movement was affected in several parts of the city as visibility reduced due to the heavy rain and dark skies.
MORE RAIN, THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY
The IMD has forecast continued rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over Delhi during the day.
Another spell of rain is likely later in the evening or at night, while moderate rainfall is expected to continue on Wednesday, with light to moderate showers likely at several places across the capital.
The weather department has also indicated that maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next few days due to sustained rainfall activity.
The ongoing weather conditions are linked to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal that crossed the West Bengal-North Odisha coast near Digha and west of Haldia on Tuesday morning.
The system is expected to continue influencing weather conditions across eastern and northern India, leading to enhanced rainfall.
RAINFALL RECORDED ACROSS DELHI
According to the IMD, Safdarjung recorded 32.4 mm of cumulative rainfall till 8:30 am on Tuesday, while Ridge received 37.6 mm, Lodi Road recorded 36.7 mm, Ayanagar received 4.0 mm, and Palam recorded 0.8 mm.
On Monday, Ridge recorded 19.4 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, followed by Lodi Road at 11.5 mm, Safdarjung at 8.0 mm, and Ayanagar at 3.8 mm.
The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 25.5 degrees Celsius, around 1.8 degrees below normal.
Despite the widespread rainfall, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 77 at 9 am on Tuesday.
