The Government of Pakistan has increased the price of petrol by Rs 13.18 (Pakistani Rupee) per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs 13.80 per liter. After this increase, the price of one liter petrol in Pakistan has become Rs 310.71 and the price of high-speed diesel has become Rs 323.30 per liter. The trend of increase started from February. Despite the recent increase, both the fuels remain below their record high (peak level). On April 3, the price of diesel had reached an all-time high of Rs 520.35 per liter. This rise in fuel prices was seen after the start of the US-Iran war on February 28, when diesel was at the level of Rs 281 per liter. On the other hand, the price of petrol also reached a high of Rs 458.41 on April 3, which had started from Rs 266 per liter in the first week of March. Tax increased due to IMF conditions, Rs 80 levy on diesel and Rs 70 levy on petrol. The strict conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are also behind the increase in fuel prices. The government has doubled the ‘Climate Support Levy’ to Rs 5 per liter from July 1, while in return there has been a slight cut in the petroleum levy. After this change, currently the petroleum levy on diesel is around Rs 80 per liter. At the same time, along with petroleum levy of Rs 70 per liter on petrol, climate support levy of Rs 5 is being collected separately. Tax up to Rs 100 per liter of fuel, including custom duty: The government is currently charging a total tax of Rs 101 per liter on high-speed diesel (HSD). This includes Rs 16 per liter custom duty, petroleum levy, climate support levy and inland freight equalization margin. Talking about petrol, the total tax on it is Rs 95 per liter, to which Rs 20 per liter custom duty as well as petroleum and climate levy have been added. Apart from this, the government is charging petroleum levy of Rs 21 per liter on kerosene and Rs 16 per liter on light diesel oil.
