PM Modi Indonesia Visit, July 7 2026 Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Indonesia on Tuesday as part of the first leg of his three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand. The visit is aimed at strengthening India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and its commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
Focus on trade and strategic ties
During his visit to Indonesia from July 6 to 8, PM Modi will hold talks with President Prabowo Subianto to further deepen bilateral ties. This is his fourth visit to Indonesia. PM’s visit to Indonesia is also expected to give a fresh push to bilateral ties, particularly in the defence sector, with the BrahMos missile deal likely to witness significant progress.
India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty told News18 that discussions on the BrahMos acquisition have reached an advanced stage and expressed hope that the visit would bring “good news” on the issue.
Why PM Modi’s visit is important?
The visit comes at a time when Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand account for only a small share of India’s trade and foreign direct investment inflows despite existing trade agreements. India’s trade with these three countries declined in FY26, with both exports and imports falling. India also recorded a trade deficit of nearly $23 million with New Zealand in FY26 after maintaining a surplus since FY21.
After concluding his Indonesia visit, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Australia, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for bilateral talks focused on expanding the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
