US-Iran War Live Updates Today: U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated on Wednesday that Washington had signed a “historic agreement” to end the war with Iran, adding the country would “never have a nuclear weapon”.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote: “Last week, we signed a historic agreement to end the conflict with Iran, fully open the Strait of Hormuz, and accomplish what no President has ever been able to accomplish before — Iran will NEVER have a nuclear weapon!”
Last week, Iran and the U.S. signed an agreement to set up 60 days of toll-free passage through the Strait of Hormuz and finalise a framework to end the conflict in West Asia.
Rubio Stresses Toll-Free Hormuz Shipping
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said no country, including Iran, would be allowed to charge tolls for shipping in the crucial Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for nearly one-fifth of the global energy trade.
He sought to ensure U.S. allies in the Gulf that Washington would remain firm in peace negotiations with Iran, saying: “No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway. That’s existing international law. That’s the way it is in international waterways all over the world, and that’s the way we expect it’ll be here”, according to The Guardian.
The statement came as Rubio landed in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Tuesday, in his first visit to the Gulf after February 28 –– when the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran, killing the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The U.S. Secretary of State is also scheduled to travel to Kuwait and Bahrain, according to a statement from the state department.
