- NEET Exam: Telecom Ban Lifted, Telegram Message Edit Restricted Till June 30

Instant messaging app Telegram has restarted in India after 7 days. Following the controversy over the circulation of fake and leaked papers of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the central government had blocked the app and its related web services till June 22.
After the NEET re-exam on June 21, the temporary ban on the app has ended. After this, from the morning of June 23, the app started appearing again on Google Play Store, but many users complained about not being able to download the app.
At the same time, some users said that ‘after downloading the app, they are not able to sign up or access the chat. In some cases, this problem occurred in users of both Jio and Airtel networks. At the same time, Telegram was not available on the App Store for iPhone users.
However, late on Tuesday night the company posted information about the commencement of all services.
Users will not be able to edit messages till June 30
Even though Telegram has returned to India, the government has instructed the company to stop the ‘message-editing’ feature on its platform till June 30. That means users will not be able to make any changes in the sent messages.
Why did the government block Telegram?
The central government had ordered a blanket block i.e. a complete ban on Telegram and its related web services till June 22. The government alleged that the platform had completely failed to prevent leaks and fake papers, misleading content and other activities related to examination fraud related to the NEET exam.
This restriction was kept in place at the time of NEET re-examination held on June 21, so that any kind of irregularities could be prevented. According to officials, no irregularities have been reported during this re-examination.
The matter reached Delhi High Court, the government’s decision was accepted as right.
Telegram had challenged the government order in the Delhi High Court. However, while hearing the case last week, the Delhi High Court upheld the government’s ban. The court said that government restrictions are necessary to maintain the dignity and fairness of such a big national-level medical entrance exam of the country.
The court also rejected Telegram’s argument, in which the company had said that the prescribed legal procedure was not followed in imposing the ban.
If Telegram is banned then why not WhatsApp?
Due to the freedom given to criminals to hide their identity and create groups worth lakhs on Telegram, a temporary ban had to be imposed on it. At the same time, WhatsApp follows Indian rules. It is easy to track the user here…
