Netherlands crushed Sweden 5-1 in their second Group F match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Brian Brobbey scored the fastest brace by a Dutch player in FIFA World Cup history, netting twice in just 16 minutes and 12 seconds. Cody Gakpo then scored twice in the second half before Crysencio Summerville found the back of the net in the 89th minute to seal a comprehensive victory for the Netherlands.
The win over Sweden, who had defeated Tunisia 5-1 in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, helped the Dutch side break the record for the longest unbeaten run in FIFA World Cup history.

The previous record for the longest unbeaten streak in FIFA World Cup history was held by Brazil, who remained unbeaten in 13 matches from 1958 to 1966.

The Netherlands’ last defeat in a FIFA World Cup match (excluding penalty shootouts) came against Spain in the final of the 2010 tournament, when they suffered a 1-0 loss.
They finished third at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where their only defeat came against Argentina in a penalty shootout in the semifinals.
The Dutch side failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and at the 2022 edition, they were once again eliminated by Argentina in a penalty shootout, this time in the quarterfinals.

The Dutch team last lost a World Cup group-stage match in the 1994 edition, when they were beaten by Belgium at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on June 25.
