IIRF Rankings 2026: After BITS Pilani, SRM IST in Chennai has secured the second spot, and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) grabbed the third spot.

The International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) has published its 2026 list of the top 10 private engineering colleges in India. BITS Pilani in Rajasthan has secured the top rank. While SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai has secured the second spot, and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Vellore grabbed the third spot.
Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Karnataka has been placed fourth and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Punjab secured the fifth spot. “These colleges have state of the art facilities, good industry collaboration and commendable placements. Some of them conduct their own entrance tests,” states the official notice.

The colleges for engineering are chosen after carefully considering the factors like infrastructure, faculty, branches of engineering taught, facilities for training and research, industry collaboration for projects, and placements.

The top engineering colleges in India accept scores from the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Only a small percentage of students with the highest percentiles are shortlisted for admission. These colleges also conduct group discussions and interviews in the final rounds of selection. Some institutions accept scores from state-level exams conducted by state governments, such as TANCET. Many private engineering colleges not only accept JEE scores but also conduct their own entrance tests, including BITSAT, SRMJEE, VITEEE, etc.
