Shrutika Baranwal, a postgraduate from Mumbai’s Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), was on cloud nine after bagging her first job through campus placement. She had travelled to the capital for a work-related meeting and stayed at a bed-and-breakfast in South Delhi.
For her, it was merely the beginning of her journey — until tragedy struck.
While she was about to check out of the hotel, a massive fire swept through the facility, claiming several lives and turning countless dreams to ashes.
Baranwal, 25, was among the 21 people who perished in the devastating fire that engulfed Flourish Stay bed-and-breakfast in Hauz Rani.
Who Was Shrutika Baranwal?
A native of Bokaro, Jharkhand, Shrutika Baranwal had secured a Master’s degree in Water Policy and Governance. She had bagged a job at the Rubber, Chemical and Polymer Skill Development Council, according to a report by the Indian Express.
According to her friends, she was excited about the next phase of her career — which could have been a wonderful journey forward.
When the fire broke out, Baranwal was on a call with her friend and batchmate, Aman Singh. “I cannot forget those screams. I lost contact with her. When I was unable to reconnect the call, I spoke to a friend who knew where she stayed in Delhi and we contacted the police. Within a few minutes, they called and informed us about the fire,” Singh said, as quoted by the Indian Express.
