A fortnight after Twisha Sharma’s death, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recreated the crime scene in connection with her case. A team of around a dozen CBI sleuths landed at the residence of former Judge and the deceased’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, around 12 noon on Monday and recreated the crime scene for almost 3 hours.
Besides the ex-judge, her son and an accused in the case, Samarth Singh, was also brought to the scene of crime- their residence – for the recreation.
Twisha’s Family Welcomes Probe
Expressing confidence in the ongoing investigation, the family of former actor-model welcomed “scientific probe” being conducted by CBI. Her father Navnidhi Sharma told CNN News18“We can’t comment much on the evidence because of the Supreme Court order, but we are hopeful of justice and have full faith in CBI.”
What CBI Sought To Achieve
The recreation, as per sources, was meant to ascertain the exact sequence of events in the lead-up to Twisha’s death and soon after. The late actor- model’s husband, Samarth, was taken up to the rooftop by the CBI, where Twisha allegedly used a gymnastic belt as a noose to hang herself.
The central probe agency asked Samarth to show exactly how he discovered Twisha’s body and how he brought it down. A ligature, similar to the gymnastic belt that Twisha allegedly used to hang herself, was used by CBI to hang a dummy. The dummy, as per sources, was of the same approximate weight as Twisha.
Samarth Singh had told the police that he brought down Twisha from the noose. CBI, through recreation, checked if it was possible for a man of Samarth Singh’s build and height to single-handedly bring down a 70 kg dead body. Twisha’s weight in the post-mortem has been noted as 70kg. Samarth has reportedly told interrogators that Giribala Singh untied the knot around Twisha’s neck while he brought the body down. Giribala was seen explaining to the probe team, using the dummy, how she had undone the knot.
The strength of the gymnastic belt was also tested to ascertain if it was strong enough to take 70 kilogram weight.
Probe Focuses On Injuries And Timeline
The recreation also probed how Twisha sustained some of the injuries mentioned in the first post-mortem report. The first post-mortem report had listed injuries to the ring finger, left forearm, hand and shoulder. All these injuries were ante mortem (before death) as per the report. Bhopal commissioner of police Sanjay Yadav had called these injuries “simple.”
Twisha’s family, however, had alleged that she had an injury in the middle of her scalp. CBI, with the dummy, probed if the injuries could have been sustained while the body was brought down the stairs. Giribala and Samarth were also questioned on how Twisha got these injuries.
CBI sources said the team will now match the testimonies given by Giribala and Samarth to check if they are consistent with their previous statements given to police. The investigating officer is also likely to look for discrepancies, if any, in the sequence of events narrated by Samarth and Giribala. The duo is to be produced in court tomorrow as their CBI custody ends soon. The probe agency is likely to seek fresh custody of the suspects on grounds of joint interrogation.
