The NIA took over the case from Keralam Police earlier this year. Considering the seriousness of the case, the agency has expanded the scope of investigation.
NIA is the country’s premier anti-terrorism investigation agency. In recent months the agency has intensified its action against illegal arms and explosives networks operating at the interstate level.
Network fears in many states
- The links of some people involved in the procurement and distribution of the seized material may extend to several states. For this reason, action was taken simultaneously at many places from Saturday morning.
- Investigators are trying to find out how the explosives were procured, stored and moved. The agency is also investigating whether these materials were to be used for any illegal activity or illegal business.
- The explosive material may have been collected and delivered to the targets through a network spread across various states in South India. Based on this possibility, NIA has further expanded the scope of investigation.
- During the raid the teams searched residential and business premises belonging to the suspects. There, documents, digital devices and other evidence are being examined, so that information about the entire network can be obtained.
