PM Modi Bengaluru Visit: Six policemen have been suspended in connection with the recovery of gelatin sticks near the route of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bengaluru earlier this month.
The cops have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty following the recovery of gelatin sticks ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the Art of Living Centre on the outskirts of the city on May 10, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.
The suspension orders were issued by Bengaluru South district Superintendent of Police R Srinivas Gowda, pending completion of an inquiry into the incident, which has raised concerns over a potential security lapse. The SP suspended a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and four constables.
The suspended personnel will remain out of duty until the inquiry is completed. Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain how the explosive materials ended up near the Prime Minister’s convoy route and whether there was any deliberate attempt to compromise security arrangements.
What Happened On May 10?
A major security alert was triggered in Bengaluru after gelatin sticks were recovered near a route scheduled to be used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city earlier this month.
The explosives were found near Thathaguni in the Kaggalipura area, around three kilometres from the main venue where the Prime Minister was scheduled to attend a programme later in the day.
According to police, the gelatin sticks were detected during routine security sanitisation and checks carried out ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival.
During an inspection, a police constable spotted gelatin sticks with a circuit and a timer.
Following the information, the National Investigation Agency swung into action and joined the probe.
