The two terrorists whose houses were demolished include Adil Thokar and Haroon Ganai.
In Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, the administration on Thursday demolished the houses of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists by planting IED. This action was taken a day after the murder of police force head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi in Lal Chowk.
According to officials, the terrorists whose houses were demolished include Adil Thokar, resident of Guri village of Bijbehra and Haroon Ganai, resident of Hasanpora.
Constable Qureshi was shot dead at around 12.30 pm on Tuesday. These two terrorists were also involved in the attack. Terrorists had carried out this dastardly incident at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, South Kashmir.
Adil Thokar is associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Haroon Ganai is associated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
Qureshi was posted on Amarnath Yatra duty
Head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, attached to the Indian Reserve Police and SOG, was deployed on Amarnath Yatra duty. At the time the attack took place, the Amarnath Yatra was temporarily halted due to bad weather.
At around 12:30 pm, the terrorists targeted him from very close range and opened fire on him. The security forces retaliated, following which bullets were fired from both sides. The terrorists fled after the attack.
During this, Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi got injured. He was immediately taken to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Martyred soldier Ashiq Hussain is survived by his wife and three children.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a terrorist organization associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, martyred in the terrorist attack, was a resident of Budgam.
Both are said to be active since 2018. According to security agencies, Adil Thokar is associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), while according to current intelligence, Haroon Ganai is associated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). However, in the statement of another officer, both have been described as LeT terrorists.
Adil Thokar had gone to Pakistan via Attari-Wagah border in Punjab in 2018. There he took training in terrorist camps and sometime last year again infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir and returned.
Following the attack, security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a massive search operation across the Kashmir Valley. A senior official said that more than 2,000 over ground workers (OGW) have been detained.
According to officials, this action is part of the ongoing operation against terrorists and their support system. At the same time, search operations have also been intensified in many areas including Anantnag. Police and security forces are identifying all those elements who provide facilities like shelter, financial support, transport and communication to the terrorists.
Police, army and other security agencies are conducting search operations.
Two recent terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir
1. July 18: Infiltration attempt on Rajouri LoC
The Indian Army opened fire after seeing suspicious activity on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on the night of 17 July. According to officials, at around 10 pm in the Tarkundi Forward area, soldiers noticed some suspicious activity, after which firing was done.
Officials said that there was intermittent firing from both sides for about one and a half hour. There were no casualties in the attack. The army believes that suspected terrorists were trying to infiltrate. However, no arrests were made.
2. July 8: Shopian Lashkar commander Zakir Ahmed killed.
Security forces killed top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Zakir Ahmed Ghani during an encounter in Shopian. He was included in the list of 14 most wanted terrorists released after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The operation was jointly conducted by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF.
