NTA launches major institutional and technological overhaul to strengthen exam security and restore credibility.

For some time, serious concerns have been raised about major entrance examinations conducted across the country. Amid growing controversy over issues such as paper leaks, exam security, and transparency, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced extensive changes to its entire system.
The NTA has announced several key reforms to make the examination process more secure, transparent, and technologically advanced. As part of this overhaul, senior officials have been appointed to the agency, and recruitment has begun for crucial positions such as CTO, CFO, and GM-HR. According to the agency, these reforms aim to enhance the credibility of examinations held nationwide and boost candidates’ confidence.
A major decision has been taken in light of the recent controversy. In a press release, the NTA stated that, following the concerns raised about examination security, efforts are now being made to strengthen its institutional framework. The agency said that, based on the recommendations of the high-level expert committee set up by the central government, several important decisions have been implemented over the past few weeks. These reforms are primarily focused on reinforcing leadership, technical systems, monitoring mechanisms, and the administrative structure.
Four senior officers have been assigned to the NTA. The agency stated that four senior central government officials have been appointed, two at the joint secretary level and two at the director level. The joint secretary-level officers will serve as Additional Director Generals (ADGs). The NTA believes that the inclusion of experienced administrative officers will make examinations more efficient and systematic, while also strengthening the decision-making process.
To modernise its institutional framework, the NTA has initiated the recruitment process for three key specialist roles: Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Finance Officer (CFO), and General Manager-Human Resources (GM-HR). The agency says that appointing experts to these positions will reinforce the examination system at both technical and administrative levels.
The role of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is considered especially important. The CTO will be responsible for ensuring that the examination system is technologically secure and up to date. This includes overseeing digital examination systems, securing question papers, and enhancing cybersecurity. Biometric verification, face authentication, and AI-based monitoring systems will also come under the CTO’s supervision. The agency’s objective is to minimise the chances of any irregularities or leaks in the examination process through the use of technology.
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will manage all financial aspects related to examinations. He will be responsible for financial management, accounting, budgeting, and audit-related tasks. According to the NTA, this will increase the agency’s financial transparency and accountability.
The General Manager-Human Resources (GM-HR) will concentrate on strengthening the agency’s workforce, training systems, and human resource policies. Efforts will also be made to improve work culture and enhance employees’ capabilities.
The NTA has clarified that major technological changes will soon be visible in the examination system. Security arrangements will be reinforced at every stage, from question paper preparation to printing and logistics. Additionally, the use of AI-based monitoring, data analytics, continuous surveillance, and digital tracking systems will be expanded.
Special focus will be placed on biometric and face authentication to verify candidates’ identities. The goal is to prevent impersonation and reduce the likelihood of malpractices during examinations. The agency believes that by leveraging technology, the examination process can be made more secure and transparent.
The NTA has also announced that a new mechanism is being developed to address complaints from candidates and parents. Particular emphasis will be placed on increasing transparency, strengthening communication channels, and ensuring prompt resolution of grievances.
According to the NTA, this entire reform programme is being implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education. The agency maintains that, after these changes, the credibility of examinations conducted across the country will be stronger than before and candidates’ confidence will be significantly boosted.
