The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday sought 14 days’ custody of the accused arrested in the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, telling a Delhi court that investigators may need to take the accused outside the national capital as the probe widens across multiple states.

The agency told the court that accused Dhananjay Nivrutti Lokhande was in constant contact with Manisha Waghamare, another suspect already arrested in the case. Investigators said Dhananjay allegedly collected confidential material from Waghamare, which was later passed on to another accused, Shubham Khairnar.

The CBI also informed the court that Prahlad Vitthal Kulkarni, identified as a “subject expert” associated with setting the 2026 NEET-UG paper, was under scrutiny in the investigation.

The NEET-UG 2026 examination was cancelled after allegations emerged that the paper had been leaked and circulated across multiple states. According to investigators, the alleged leak network originated in Pune, where the examination paper was first reportedly sold to Nashik-based Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) student Shubham Khairnar. The probe, initially handled by local authorities, was later transferred to the CBI by the Centre.
