An average of 43% people in 31 countries of the world say that it is impossible for them to live without a car. People consider car as their favorite transport in 22 countries. 65% of Americans can’t live without a car. But the first choice of the people of India is public transport. 62% people of the country want to choose public transport. This has been revealed in Ipsos’ Global Mobility Report 2026. But countries like France, Germany, America and Canada, which were the biggest advocates of EV, are becoming disillusioned with it. In Japan this figure has fallen to -28%. In contrast, Indonesia (60%), Mexico (60%) and Chile (57%) are at the forefront. This survey was conducted in 31 countries. 23,722 people participated. Self-Driving Cars – India Not Afraid – EV appeal in India is 40%, slightly lower than the global average of 47%. But it is in a better condition than Europe and North America. – 36% people consider self-driving cars unsafe. France (-37%), Netherlands (-35%), America (-25%) are at the forefront. – About 47% people in India feel safe in this technology, while the global average is 36%. Big opportunities for every company in the Indian market: 16% in India would like to buy a car from a tech company, 22% prefer traditional automakers. – 62% have no preference. That means the market is not closed for anyone. Doors are open for tech companies like Tata, Mahindra, Google, Xiaomi etc. Opposition to China is increasing in Asia, big opportunities for India – 90% people in Japan will not buy Chinese cars. Anti-China sentiment is also strong in South Korea. – 48% of people in Canada will not buy an American car. That means there are big opportunities for India in this environment. – This distrust against China can open the way for Indian brands in Asian markets. – 42% people are avoiding buying cars from a particular country. Sugar is at the top of this list. Its boycott rate is (41%) and for American cars this figure is around 24%.
