BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s Personal Assistant, Chandranath Rath, was shot dead in Madhyamgram in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, people familiar with the matter told CNN-News18.
As per the information available, multiple shots were fired from a point-blank range, targeting Rath. The assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire when he was sitting inside a black Scorpio, they said.
Soon after the incident, the Madhyamgram police rushed to the spot to initiate an investigation into the matter. At present, Chandranath Rath’s body is kept at a nearby hospital in Madhyamgram.
Sources stated that Suvendu Adhikari — who won the West Bengal Election from Nandigram and Bhabanipur — is reaching the spot to take stock of the situation.
CRPF Director General GP Singh, along with several BJP leader, are rushing to the site.
