Samples of 141 medicines manufactured in the country have failed in the investigation by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). Of these, 46 medicines are manufactured in Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh, Kalab, Una, Solan of Himachal Pradesh. Most of the medicines are used in headache, stomach ache, BP, sugar, ulcer, various infectious diseases. Besides, samples of medicines for dangerous diseases like cancer and heart disease were also found failing. According to the March drug alert issued by CDSCO, these medicines which failed the quality check were declared ‘Not of Standard Quality’ (NSQ). The Drug Controller has issued notices to the concerned companies and issued orders to recall the stock. Samples of which medicines manufactured in Himachal spread, action will be taken under the Drug and Cosmetic Act. Action will be taken against the pharmaceutical companies whose samples are not found up to the standards, under the Drug and Cosmetic Act. Drug controllers can suspend or cancel the license of a medicine manufacturing company. Besides, fine can also be imposed. After the department, now the health department will also test the samples of these medicines. There is no control on substandard medicines. Himachal Pradesh is called the pharma hub of the country. It is worrying that medicine samples are repeatedly failing in the state. The Health Department and the Drug Controller Department repeatedly make claims of strictness. But there is no control on substandard and low quality medicines and many medicines made in Himachal are included in every month’s drug alert.
