When he became the President of India, his students wanted to celebrate his birthday on September 5th. However, Radhakrishnan humbly requested that the day be observed as Teachers’ Day instead, saying, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day.”
This gesture epitomized his deep respect for the teaching profession, as he strongly believed that “teachers should be the best minds in the country.”
