Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday wrote a letter to the floor leaders of all parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, seeking support on the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’. The PM wrote that now the time has come that this law should be truly implemented in the entire country.

He wrote that the 2029 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections should be held with reservation for women. All parties have long expressed their desire to give more representation to women in politics, now is the time to turn it into reality.

At the same time, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter in response to the letter saying that calling a special session of Parliament amidst state elections shows that the government wants to implement this law in a hurry for political gains.

Kharge said – there should be an all-party meeting

Kharge also demanded that an all-party meeting should be called on this issue and the issues related to the boundary should be discussed in detail. The draft bill to amend the Nari Shakti Vandan Act was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

Under this proposal, Lok Sabha seats will be increased from the current 543 to 816, out of which 273 seats will be reserved for women.

Therefore, the government has extended the budget session and called a special session of Parliament from 16 to 18 April. After getting approval from the Parliament, this law will come into force from March 31, 2029, and will come into effect for the first time in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in the same year.

Government will bring a separate bill to amend the delimitation law

There will be reservation of seats in the state assemblies in the same proportion. The government will also bring a separate ordinary bill to amend the Constitution as well as the delimitation law along with an amendment bill. So that seats can be determined afresh.

New seats can be determined on the basis of 2011 census instead of 2027 census. This law will also be implemented in the state assemblies and union territories like Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry.
