Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has achieved a major achievement on World Health Day 2026. Hospital doctor T.B. Sitting in Mumbai, Yuvraja performed robotic kidney operation on a 55-year-old woman at the Medical City Hospital in Muscat, Oman. This cross-border remote robotic surgery is believed to be a first from India. This surgery was done through advanced ‘Medbot Tumai’ robotic system and real-time connectivity. The doctor controlled the entire operation from a distance and successfully completed the kidney removal process. Dr. T.B., Director of Uro-Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Kokilaben Hospital. Yuvraja said that this is a big change in healthcare. According to him, now patients will not need to go to another country for better treatment, rather only doctors will be able to reach the patients through technology. He said that he has experience of more than 4200 robotic surgeries and this achievement is not just a successful operation but also an indication of the future of healthcare system. This could ease access to treatment around the world. Dr. Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO of the hospital, said that this achievement is based on the technical capability of the hospital and the experience of remote operations done earlier. He said that this time India’s clinical capacity was extended to the cancer patients of Muscat. According to the hospital, this surgery was done under all the necessary rules. CDSCO guidelines were followed to maintain safety, ethics and clinical standards. This is necessary because remote surgery is now gradually moving towards implementation on a large scale. The hospital said that this achievement shows that India is no longer just a center of medical tourism but is also moving towards providing real-time medical expertise across the world. This also proved that now surgery is going beyond the borders of the country. Kokilaben Hospital has a large center for robotic surgery and has three advanced robotic platforms. The hospital also has India’s first Medbot Tumai system, which makes such surgeries possible. According to the hospital, this entire process is based on patient-centric thinking.
