In a distressing incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, two madrassa teachers can be seen in a video brutally beating a 10-year-old child with sticks. The video has triggered massive outrage and the police have arrested the accused teachers.
The incident is alleged to have taken place at the Darul Uloom Zakaria madrassa and came to light on Friday when the purported video surfaced online. In the clip, the child can be seen begging for mercy as he is repeatedly hit, an image that has shocked viewers and fuelled anger on social media.
Police said the boy fled the madrassa after the assault. Authorities are still trying to ascertain the exact date on which the incident occurred.
The video shows the child being ordered to lie flat on the floor as one teacher rains blows on him with a stick, while another teacher is seen holding him down. At one point, amid the boy’s cries for mercy, the second teacher lifts the child’s legs, allowing the first to strike the soles of his feet repeatedly.
Circle Officer (Gangoh) Ashok Sisodhiya told PTI that a case has been registered and both teachers have been arrested. The accused have been identified as Junaid (28) and Shoaib (30), and appropriate legal action has been initiated against them.
The case was registered on the basis of a written complaint by Qari Sajid Hasan, a resident of Khanpur Gurjar village, who stated that children from surrounding villages attend the madrassa.
Police are also trying to identify and trace the person who recorded the video. Sisodhiya said strict action will be taken against all those found responsible.
