A spell of changing weather conditions is set to bring widespread rain across Karnataka, offering some relief from rising temperatures while also prompting caution in several districts.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in many parts of the state over the next two days. In view of the forecast, a yellow alert has been issued for 22 districts, indicating the possibility of intense rainfall at isolated places.

Districts under alert include Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Tumakuru.

Bengaluru Likely to See Evening Showers

For Bengaluru, the IMD has forecast cloudy skies with a high likelihood of evening or late-night showers over the next few days. While the rainfall may bring temporary relief from heat, commuters could face disruptions due to sudden downpours and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Neighbouring districts such as Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Tumakuru are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.

Coastal and Malnad Regions on Alert

Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are likely to witness thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. In Uttara Kannada, rainfall is expected in areas bordering Belagavi and Dharwad.

In the Malnad belt, including Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga, scattered thunderstorms are forecast in multiple locations. These regions are likely to experience more consistent rainfall activity compared to other parts of the state.

Chikkamagaluru district is expected to see a more intense spell, with heavy rain predicted over the next four days. The IMD has also warned of strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, especially during thunderstorms.

Rain Likely Till April 5

As per the IMD’s current outlook, rainfall activity is expected to continue at scattered places across Karnataka until April 5. The shifting wind patterns and moisture movement are driving this change, leading to frequent weather fluctuations.

With thunderstorms in the forecast, officials have advised residents to stay alert, especially during evening hours. People are urged to avoid standing under trees, electric poles and power lines during rain and strong winds.

While the rain is expected to bring some respite from heat, authorities warn that sudden showers and gusty winds could pose risks, particularly in urban areas like Bengaluru where traffic and waterlogging remain key concerns.
