The airport, commonly known as Jewar Airport, is a major greenfield project located near Jewar in Uttar Pradesh and is designed to serve the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). Situated about 75 km from the national capital, it will become the region’s second international airport after Indira Gandhi International Airport, enhancing connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh and nearby areas.

The project is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited under a public-private partnership with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. The concession period began on October 1, 2021, and will run for 40 years, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The airport will be developed in four phases, including a multi-modal cargo hub. In its first phase, with one runway and one terminal, it can handle about 12 million passengers annually.
