North India is bracing for a fresh spell of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds from March 26, 2026, as multiple Western Disturbances are set to impact the region, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The upcoming weather system is expected to trigger a turbulent few days across both the hills and plains of the north, which have already been witnessing unseasonal showers and hail in recent weeks.
In its latest forecast, the IMD has warned of unstable weather conditions over several northern states, including the national capital region. For Delhi and the NCR, the department has predicted the possibility of very light rain or drizzle on March 26, likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Wind speeds are expected to range between 20–30 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 40 kmph during the afternoon.
Himachal Pradesh is also set to come under the influence of two consecutive Western Disturbances from March 26. The IMD has indicated that rain and thunderstorms are likely across the state, with light rainfall expected over many parts of the lower and middle hills. In the higher reaches, precipitation is likely to occur at isolated locations.
The IMD will continue to monitor the evolving weather pattern closely as the disturbances approach, with further updates anticipated over the next few days.
