US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the official withdrawal of America from 66 international organizations. According to The Guardian, it includes 35 non-United Nations (UN) organizations and 31 United Nations entities.

According to the White House and State Department, these organizations are against American interests. This is a waste of money. Apart from this, they are being run unnecessarily or poorly. This move is being described as part of Trump’s ‘America First’ policy, which emphasizes distancing from global institutions.

Earlier, Trump had announced his exit from the World Health Organization (WHO) in January 2025. A notice period of one year is required to withdraw from WHO membership. After January 22, America will no longer be a member of WHO.

America will withdraw from UN Convention on Climate Change

The biggest thing about this decision is America’s withdrawal from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). UNFCCC is a 1992 agreement that connects almost all countries in the world and helps fight climate change.

It is also important for the Paris Climate Agreement, from which Trump has already talked about pulling America out. Trump did not send a US delegation to the UN climate talks in Brazil.

Apart from this, the US is also withdrawing from important climate organizations like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Jean Su of the Center for Biological Diversity said that this illegal step could take the US out of climate diplomacy forever.

America ranks second in greenhouse gas emissions

Experts say this will deal a deep blow to global climate efforts. America is the second largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world.

Experts like Stanford University scientist Rob Jackson have warned that this could give other countries an excuse to postpone their climate commitments and act arbitrarily. Trump has long called climate change a ‘hoax’.

Former climate advisor said- Trump is wasting decades of hard work

This decision of Trump is being strongly criticized. Gina McCarthy, former climate advisor to the Joe Biden administration, has called it a weak-minded, shameful and foolish decision.

McCarthy said that now the only country in the world that will not be part of the UNFCCC will be the United States, ruining decades of American climate leadership and global cooperation.

This would cause the United States to lose the ability to influence trillions of dollars of investment, policies, and decisions that would grow the economy and avoid costly disasters.

Manish Bapna, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, called it a “needless mistake” and “self-defeating” because it would undermine the US’s ability to compete with China, which is leading the way in clean energy technology.

He said that while the rest of the world is moving towards clean energy, the Trump administration is abandoning global leadership and depriving the US of trillions of dollars of investment coming from clean energy.

Trump’s allegation – Population agency promotes forced abortion

Another important withdrawal is from the United Nations Population Agency (UNFPA), which provides sexual and reproductive health services around the world. The Republican Party and Trump have earlier also accused this agency of promoting ‘forced abortion’ in countries like China.

However, no such evidence was found in the investigation during the Biden administration. Its funding was stopped during Trump’s first term.

America is also leaving India led organization ISA

India-led organization International Solar Alliance (ISA) will also be affected. Which was started in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then French President François Hollande at the Paris Climate Conference. America is getting out of it.

Other organizations include the United Nations University, the International Cotton Advisory Committee, the International Tropical Timber Organization, the Carbon Free Energy Compact, and many cultural and environmental organizations.

Foreign Minister said – will not give financial assistance to those working against us

After Trump’s decision, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement that these agreements are related to America’s progress. As far as climate crisis is concerned, it is a matter of scientific consensus. It is having an increasing impact on economies and people’s lives.

Rubio said that this step to separate from these organizations fulfills an important promise made by President Trump to Americans. We will stop funding bureaucrats who work against our interests. The Trump administration will always put America and Americans above.

America wants to dominate institutions competing with China

The Trump administration has previously pulled out of agencies like the UN Human Rights Council, UNESCO and UNRWA for Palestinian refugees. The US State Department says that the review of other organizations will continue in the future.

However, the US wants to increase its influence in some institutions where there is competition from China, such as the International Telecommunication Union and the International Labor Organization.

This decision has come at a time when the foreign policy of the Trump administration looks quite aggressive. Recently, the US Army attacked Venezuela and captured controversial leader Nicolas Maduro and brought him to America, where he is facing trial.

Also, Trump has again expressed his old desire to occupy Greenland. Experts believe that these steps could isolate America on the global stage, but Trump supporters call it a matter of American sovereignty and saving taxpayers’ money. ,
