.

Actually, the seat of the head in this Gram Panchayat was reserved for a Scheduled Tribe (ST) woman and the condition was that the woman should be at least eighth pass. But, no Vanraji (Raji tribe) woman 8th pass was found in the entire village due to which nomination could not be done even in the by-election.

In this regard, Pithoragarh’s Panchasthan Officer Bhuvan Upreti says that higher officials have been informed regarding this problem and further decisions will be taken based on whatever further instructions are received.

The number of Vanaraji families in Khetar Kanyal village is very less.

Only one man has passed Inter Khetar Kanyal falls in Didihat block of Pithoragarh. According to the last census conducted in 2011, its total population is 920. There are 162 Vanrajis in the village, but no woman of this tribe is 8th pass here, the poor condition of education is not limited to women only, there is only one Vanraji man in this village who has studied till Intermediate.

According to Panchayat Raj Department, change in reservation is the only option for the election of Gram Pradhan in this Gram Panchayat. Due to change in reservation, reservation of other seats will also be affected. In such a situation, this Gram Panchayat may have to remain without a village head for the next five years.
