RK Singh stated that he could not respond to a notice “that did not specify” the alleged anti-party activities
Former Union minister RK Singh suspended from BJP.
Former Union minister RK Singh on Saturday announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), hours after he was suspended and issued a show-cause notice that he says failed to spell out the charges against him.
Singh stated that he could not respond to a notice “that did not specify” the alleged anti-party activities.
Singh confirmed that he submitted his resignation to BJP national president JP Nadda. “I have sent my resignation to the party. The letter sent by me to the state office and the resignation sent to the honourable national president of the BJP are attached,” he wrote on X.
In his resignation letter, Singh argued that the action against him appeared to be linked to his earlier criticism of the party’s ticket distribution to candidates with criminal backgrounds.
The former Arrah MP said that his comments, posted on Facebook in October, were intended to discourage political criminalisation and corruption, not undermine the BJP.
“The show cause is probably because of my statement against the distribution of tickets to people with a criminal background. Such statements are not anti-party. They are in the interest of the nation, society, and the party. But it seems some within the organisation were uncomfortable with it,” he wrote.
Why BJP Suspended RK Singh
Singh’s resignation follows his suspension by the BJP’s Bihar unit, announced a day after the NDA’s sweeping win in the 2025 assembly elections, where the party secured 89 seats to become the single largest in the state.
The suspension order, which also named MLC Ashok Agarwal, accused both leaders of engaging in “anti-party activities” and frequently making statements that contradicted the organisation’s stand.
The state leadership said the disciplinary action was necessary to uphold internal order.
Both Singh and Agarwal were given a week to explain their conduct.
According to individuals familiar with internal deliberations, complaints had surfaced about Singh’s behaviour during the election cycle, including allegations that he criticised fellow BJP leaders and contributed to internal discord.
